My name is Vanessa Springer-Crenshaw, CASAC, ICADC, SAP, and I am the founder of R.A.F.A. — Restoration After a Fatal Addiction. R.A.F.A. was not born from a business plan. It was born from heartbreak, reflection, and a commitment to ensure that loss would not have the final word.
In 2022, I experienced a loss that changed me forever when a client I deeply cared about lost his battle with addiction. Despite recognizing the warning signs and doing everything within my professional role to support him, the outcome was devastating. I carried that loss heavily and found myself questioning my purpose and my future in this work. What impacted me just as deeply was how quickly the world moved on. While a family was grieving and a life had been lost, the expectation was to continue as though nothing had happened. That never sat well with my heart.
For a season, I stepped away to grieve, reflect, and pray. What I discovered was that loss can either become a stopping point or a starting point. I chose to make it a starting point. From that loss, R.A.F.A. was born. Today, as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC), Internationally Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (ICADC), and U.S. Department of Transportation Qualified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), I help individuals navigate some of the most challenging moments of their lives and careers.
Whether someone is facing a DOT violation, rebuilding trust with their family, seeking recovery resources, or searching for a path forward after a setback, my mission remains the same: To help people move from crisis to restoration, from uncertainty to hope, and from loss to legacy.
Because one mistake does not define a life. One setback does not determine a future. And restoration is always possible.
